Naidoc Week Celebration

The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme resonates deeply with our values, of unity, integrity and excellence the importance of investing future leaders, celebrating visionary thinking, and preserving the powerful legacy of Indigenous communities.

By participating in NAIDOC Week, CBC Group reaffirms its commitment to supporting and uplifting Indigenous voices. We believe that recognising and celebrating their contributions enriches our company culture and strengthens our community ties.

Engaging Local Indigenous Talent: Zac from Saltwater Dreamtime

For our NAIDOC Week celebration, we collaborated with Zachary Bennett-Brook, a renowned local Indigenous artist from Saltwater Dreamtime, to come to the CBC Group HQ in Port Kembla for an interactive art experience, which included the team participating in the creation of an unique painting.

Throughout the morning, Zac chatted to the team about what Naidoc means to him, his journey and about how country and sea influences his art and the role it plays in his storytelling.

Zac's unique artistic vision and deep connection to his cultural heritage bring an authentic perspective to our celebrations. His work not only beautifies our environment but also educates and inspires our team, highlighting the invaluable contributions of Indigenous artists to our society.

Embedding a Culture of Recognition through Art and Storytelling

We believe that art and storytelling are powerful tools for cultivating a culture of recognition and respect. By incorporating Indigenous art and narratives into our workplace, we aim to create an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone feels valued.

Zac's artwork is just one example of how we are embedding these principles into our daily operations. Through visual storytelling, we honour the legacies of Indigenous communities and ensure that their stories are shared and remembered. This approach not only enriches our corporate culture but also strengthens our commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

CBC Group's Head office sits on the traditional lands of the Dharawal people, specifically the Wadi Wadi clan of the South Coast Illawarra region, the activation was a meaningful way to honour the enduring connection between land, culture, and community.
