Project Scope

The project required a complete upgrade of the site’s document destruction line due to the existing shredder system becoming outdated and uneconomical to maintain. The aging infeed and outfeed conveyors also no longer met operational needs, prompting their removal. To address the growing output requirements and make better use of available space, a full redesign of the destruction line layout was necessary. This new layout aimed to optimise floor space within the production shed and improve workflow efficiency. A larger Brentwood paper shredder was specified to meet the site’s increased volume demands while complying with strict shredding standards. Additionally, operator training was essential to ensure the site team could safely and effectively operate the new equipment following installation.

Key Project Requirements

  • NAID-compliant shred size of 12mm maximum

  • Minimum 2-tonne daily throughput

  • Customised to meet client-specific destruction standards

  • Integrated with the existing baler and sorting table

  • Wider, longer conveyors designed with Brentwood to suit the new layout

Challenges and Outcomes

One of the key challenges faced during the project was the inefficient layout of the existing production area. CBC identified an opportunity to improve workflow by designing a more efficient line layout, which was reviewed and approved by the asset team. Integrating the new design with existing equipment posed additional complexity, particularly in aligning the new shredder system with the baler and sorting table.

This required the design and fabrication of custom infeed and outfeed conveyors that would align precisely at the correct angles. CBC Group worked closely with Brentwood to modify the shredder with wider and longer conveyors to ensure optimal integration. The end result was a streamlined, compliant destruction line that met performance targets and improved overall production efficiency.
