Project Scope
CBC Group undertook a comprehensive project, upgrading the electrical services, including switchboards, residual control devices (RCDs), lighting and equipment across 800 locations nationally.
The upgrade served to improve the facility for its staff and the community, ensuring safe working environments and to meet all Australian standards and compliance requirements of the National Construction Codes (NCC) and
Key Project Requirements
- Replacement of operational switchboards that require a cutover plan to be followed
- Replacement of low risk non-operational switchboards
- Replacement of non RCD compliant lighting
- Replacement of switchboards containing asbestos internal panels
- Switchboards that are mounted on asbestos surfaces
Challenges and Outcomes
The upgrades spanned various critical infrastructure such as control towers, operations buildings, air traffic centres, compound stores, communications buildings and radar buildings at Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney Airports. The project brief involved enhancing electrical safety and compliance by upgrading existing electrical systems to include RCDs where standard circuit breakers were previously installed.
Despite the challenges of working within high-security and live environments across a large geographical area, CBC Group was able to successfully complete the electrical upgrade on time and in budget by extensive project planning, which included dividing the project into manageable work packages. We facilitated resource allocations and execution in order to minimise the disruption to operations while improving delivery efficiency.
