Providing health care facilities with bespoke fire safety and compliance services.

Following a successful tender submission, CBC Facilities Maintenance has been awarded the contract for Western Health’s “Essential Safety Measures – Fire Services” requirements.

Western Health (Victoria) manages three acute public hospitals: Footscray Hospital at Footscray; Sunshine Hospital at St Albans; and the Williamstown Hospital. It also operates the Sunbury Day Hospital, and a Transition Care Program at Hazeldean in Williamstown. A wide range of community-based services are also managed by Western Health, along with a large Drug and Alcohol Service.

In total CBC will be providing its fire maintenance expertise across 16 Western Health facilities.

“Government regulations require that fire equipment and systems are regularly tested, serviced and maintained to ensure they operate correctly in the event of a fire or related event,” said Scott Leys, CBC’s Fire Services Manager.

“Under this contract CBC will be scheduling and undertaking testing of all equipment and systems in accordance with Australian Standards, performing any required replacement or repairs and maintaining the required compliance records of all work performed.

“To ensure we meet all the contract and regulatory requirements our in-house expert fire maintenance technicians will utilise our custom developed Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to schedule and monitor all inspection, testing and maintenance activities, ad-hoc work order requests and importantly, the annual fire compliance test.”

Western Health facilities provide services to the western region of Melbourne which has a population of approximately 800,000 people and encompasses a catchment area of 1,569 square kilometres.

“Our ability to service such a large area with our own in-house staff was a fundamental part of our submission and ensures that we can guarantee the responsiveness and quality of the service provided to Western Health,” said Scott.

With population in the region expected to grow by a further 50% in coming years maintaining a robust health care capability will be a vital component of the region’s public infrastructure and CBC will be playing its part in ensuring the safety of patients and staff at these facilities.
